Information about ING Renault F1 Team

The Renault F1 Team first competed in a Grand Prix in 1977 and yet in 1979 Renault took there first win in a Formula 1 Grand Prix.

After a short break, Renault makes it comeback in 1988 at the Williams F1 team as an engine supplier. The Formula 1 champions from 1992 and 1993, Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost, are both powered by a Renault powerplant. In the years 1994 and 1995 Renault wins three championships as an engine supplier, in 1994 the constructorstitle with Williams F1 and in 1995 both the drivers- as well as the constructorstitle with Benetton.

In 1996 and 1997 Renault won again both the titles, now together with Williams F1 and its drivers Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve.

After 5 years, Renault makes it comeback as an engine supplier of the Benetton team. This was the start of the dominating team of nowadays.

Renault F1 Team

Renault came in 2002 with its own team and was fast rightaway. Renault had took over the Benetton team. With drivers Jenson Button and Jarno Trulli, Renault accomplished scoring a lot of points.
But next to the succeses it was also a year of learning.

The first victory since the re-start of the Renault F1 Team took place at the Hungaroring, Hungary. Youngster Fernando Alonso won the race.

World Champions

In 2005 and 2006 the Renault F1 Team, leaded by Flavio Briatore from the start, won both the worldchampionshiptitles. With a dominating season in 2005, Fernando Alonso took the crown in a car designed under the supervision of Pat Symonds and Bob Bell.

With almost a simular season in 2006 Alonso also won the championship, this time in the last race at Interlagos, Brazil. Leaving seven time world champion Michael Schumacher behind at second.
